Kroger
I did this last nite:
13 Kraft cheeses
10 nabisco crackers (wheat thins)
4 Kleenex with lotion
2 green giant steamers
1 chex mix
4 Suave
marked down milk
marked down dozen eggs
reg. price dozen eggs
a couple other items
-15.00 for promo
-9.75 13x.75 cheese coupon
-10.00 10x1.00 wyb cheese and crackers
-2.00 2x.50 steamers (doubled)
-1.00 1x.50 chex mix (doubled)
-.60 1x.60 chex mix cellfire coupon
-3.20 4x.40 kleenex lotion coupons
-4.00 4x.50 suave
-1.00 1x.50 eggland's best eggs coupon
Total oop 28.82 I had 40 items total. .72/per item
The big annoyance was the cheese coupons because they prompt for price, so the cashier had to manually input each one. I have heard rumor that they'll be restocking the blinkies around the 26th, and that the new coupons should be coded to automatically deduct. However, the cashier didn't seemed phased by it - but you never know. I totally wish we had maybe 30.00 more in our budget this month - I would soooo stock up on the cheese! I think I figured out that 30 cheeses would be around 26.xx (ish depending on how the tax works out).

Check Walgreens' clearance
Yup... great deals!!
They had L'Oreal Vive Pro shampoo/conditioner for 1.79 - free after the coupon in the Easy Saver Booklet.
Bioinfusions Organics and Professional shampoo/conditioner for 2.19 - .19 each after the coupon in the booklet
Sunsilk stylers for 1.19 - included in the buy 8 Unilever products, get 10.00 (and works with the recent 2.00/2 newspaper coupon!)
Dove shampoo - 2.59 - also included in the Unilever deal. There are various coupons available for these also. :) Good hunting ladies!
I found 15 bottles of the bioinfusion. I had a 10.00 Unilever RR, so I couldn't get any of the sunsilk with it. To roll it, I did 1 Alkaseltzer cold (5.00), 6 bayer aspirin (2.50 each), and the 15 bioinfusions. Used my 10.00 unilever RR, 6x1.00 bayer coupons, 1 free alkaseltzer cold item (mailer coupon from when I emailed and complimented them on something), and the 2.00/1 bioinfusion easy saver coupon. 6.74 oop - and 4.89 of that was tax! The receipt says I saved $144.53! (regular price on the bioinfusions run 6.99/7.99 at Walgreens!)

Dinner & Food City
Well, I'm making split pea soup in the slow cooker. It smells great to me, and what tiny taste I took, I think it's coming along well. Even so, I think that it will just be me and baby (who will eat anything) enjoying this concoction tonite. Thankfully, I've got some cheese slices - so hubby and oldest dd are having grilled cheese sammiches.
I did pick up a small piece of lamb today at food city - .99/lb!! Gonna see what I can do with it (or save it for stew...) They had great markdowns on produce, meats, & dairy. They also had a TON of great tearpad coupons. I may have to visit them a few times more... lol. 1.00/1 Sara Lee bread wyb milk, 1.00/1 Nabisco cracker wyb Kraft Cheese (kroger, I'm baaaccckkkk), 1.00/2 planters products 9.25 oz+, 1.00/3 Capri Sun or Koolaid Jammers juice Drinks (10 ct), 15.00 gac cahs card w/$40 P&G purchase rebate form, .75/1 Kraft 2% cheese blinky (in case kroger is out), 1.00/1 Quaker Oatmeal blinky.

Kroger Mega Deal
Okie dokie... Kroger is doing a mega deal - buy 10 items, get 5.00 off your order. This isn't as good of a promo as last year (tons of overage last year!), but there are some good deals still. From what I saw, it looks like the promo goes through the 31st, and some folks have said 2/3... I forgot to ask.
Here's what I did - on the fly because I didn't have my coupon binder with me!
Things in the promo:
1.96 Kens Salad dressing x2
1.99 Kraft 2% milk cheese x10
1.00 Sobe life water x1
2.99 Kraft mayo x 2 (1 regular, 1 with olive oil to try)
1.99 Daisy sour cream x2
1.00 Rotel diced tomatoes with cilantro and lime x2
1.50 Green Giant steamers veggies - asian mix x1
Things not in promo:
1.79 Teddy Grahams, mini-oreos, and nutter butters - 6 total
.92 Idahoan potatoes (this was purely a 'buy it cuz its free' purchase... figure i can donate it!)
.56 Kroger can of cream of mushroom soup
.78 loaf of bread cuz I didn't make any this week...
1.59 marked down milk gallon
4.00 coke x4
-10.00 for the promo
-4.00 buy 3 coke, get 1 free promo
- .92 x2 free idahoan printable coupon
- .30 x2 Rotel insert q
- .50 x2 Daisy sour cream insert q
- .75 x2 Kraft mayo coupon
- .50 x1 sobe hangtag q (extra from Target's floor... lol)
- .75 x10 Kraft 2% cheese blinkie (yes, I stood there and pulled out 9 - found 1 on a shelf)
- .50 x1 Green Giant grocery steamer coupon
-3.00 x3 coke coupons (I had 4, but she thought she scanned one - but later I see that she didn't :( Still... not too bad.)
-1.00 x6 Nabisco cookie coupon from tearpad found at CVS
Tax: 5.08
Total oop: 27.24
Saved: 76.38!
34 items = .80 per item... (which is why I don't mind so much about the missed coke coupon... Not too often you pay .80 for a 12 pack!)
Should've been 3.00 less, but she missed a coupon. I don't think I'll go back for it, as they were being nice in taking the coupon anyways. It expired on 1/18 (Sunday), and I asked if it was too late to use. They said if it scans they'll take it this week. You may want to ask at your local grocery store - I guess it's more common than I thought!
I bought the cookies to fulfill the requirements on the Coke coupon and to get David some snacks for work and some yummies for the baby. Not too bad of a deal for these - worked out to .79 a package. We're stocked for a while!
I noticed the Philly cream chese was included in the sale. There were 1.00/2 printables - i'll look for the link and post it later if I find it. If you can print those, it'd make the cream cheese .30 each.
If I resell the coke at 2.50 per pack, I'll get 10.00 from that. So... makes it 17.24 oop. I may also see about selling the cookie packs that David doesn't want. If we sell 4 of them @ 1.00 each, then that's 4.00 back - so 13.24 for quite a decent ammt. of stuff that we'll use! (26 items = .51 each!) Talk about some cheap cheese!!
If all you did was 10 cheeses, then you'd be paying around 8.84 after tax (maybe less) That's a pretty good deal on name brand cheese! You do have to have the patience to stand there and yank the coupons though... lol.

Um... stuff
Okay - didn't do the CVS deals. Just no time/energy.
I did manage to get to Walgreens. I got a bunch of free equal and a few boxes of oatmeal - some coming your way Betsy! (Thankfully, the oatmeal deal is common, so it should come 'round again.)
I also totally cleaned up on gum for hubby. I had bogo coupons, there was a bogo sale (so free gum normally), but as I was checking out flavors I saw bogo packages (2 pkgs. that were stuck together) in the back of the shelf. :-D YAY! I got 4 pkgs of gum instead of 2 per coupon! Hubby is a happy man. LOL!
This week - I found another good deal on HCW for Walgreens. Mauna Loa macadamia nuts are on sale for 2/4.00. There is a 3.00/2 coupon in the ESR book. The pkgs are 6 oz. So... 1.00 for 12 oz. of macadamia nuts. I see some cookies in our future... lol.
I found some coupons on one of the clipper sites for .40/1 peanut butter. Gonna get us 16 jars of that - wish I'd gotten more, but honestly don't think my stores would have enough jars. I should've got some ragu q's too - at least to keep us in cheap sauce until the garden comes in!
Speaking of gardens - a couple ladies from church and I went in together on ordering seeds. If you have friends planning to do gardening, you should consider doing this. It cost us all a lot less than if we'd only bought for our own personal selves, and I think we got a bigger selection/variety and things we would've not thought of or forgotten about without each other's suggestions. Additionally, we can split up a package and not end up with a bunch of unused seed lying around.
Hubby was installed as a deacon today at church - along with a couple other men. I'm excited about this opportunity to serve the church for him (and I... lol) He's really looking forward to it also. It's a big responsibility!

CVS - late, I know...
So, I've been contemplating re-starting my CVS adventures. I had a tentative scenario set up (monthly deals basically), but then had a lil' chat with my sister-in-law.
Apparently, on www.iheartcvs.com - you can find a 3.00 off CVS purchase. There are snack crackers that are giving back ecbs when you buy them. The crackers run 1.97. So - if I'm not too lazy tonite/early tomorrow, I will hook up the printer and print that bad boy off... Please note, I intend to visit several stores tomorrow on my errands run. Thankfully, there are several along my planned route! Otherwise, this would be highly ambitious of anyone to do in a day. Also, most of this can be done til the end of the month except for the crackers, soyjoy, and detergent. Those deals end Saturday.
Of course, this all depends on stock and whether or not the coupon rules are still the same.
Transaction 1:
4.23 for 2 CVS crackers after tax (approximate)
-3.00 CVS coupon
1.23 cash oop, get back 2.00 ECB
Transaction 2:
4.36 nutratrim gum
-2.00 ecb
2.36 oop, get back 3.99
Transaction 3:
3.99 nutratrim gum
-3.99 ecb
0.00 oop (I think there is no tax cuz the ECB is considered a store coupon/sale price reduction - if there is tax, it'll be .37) get back 3.99 ecb
Transaction 4:
10.90 2 throat coolers
-3.99 ecb
-4.99 bogo printable throat cooler coupon
1.92 oop, get back 9.98 ecb for the throat coolers
Transaction 5:
20.88 4 throat coolers
6.33 2 cvs brand detergents
27.21 subtotal
-9.98 ecb
-4.99 bogo q
-4.99 bogo q
- 3.00 cvs brand q
- 4.00 4/20.00 purchase coupon
.25 oop, get back 14.97 ecb for the throat coolers. Normally, I don't like to get high value ECB's, but not sure I have a lot of choice right now.
If I'm really adventurous and can find stock, I'll do:
Transaction 6:
12.00 2 soyjoy
7.99 1 nasogel
.25 cheap filler to hit 20.00 pretax ammt.
20.24 subtotal
-4.00 4/20
-14.97 ecb
~1.38 after tax oop, get back 12.00 ecb for soyjoy and 7.99 ecb for nasogel
If I'm totally nuts, I'll do:
Transaction 7:
12.00 soyjoy (I think I may actually have coupons for these, so my totals may vary a bit)
7.99 nasogel
5.79 cvs detergent
1.50 worth of filler (prolly gum for hubby)
- 4.00 4/20
- 3.00 cvs q
.32 oop tax, get back 12.00 ecb and 7.99 ecb
I will have spent 7.46 oop, and have 12.00 and 7.99 ecbs to spend later.
I will have 'stocked':
2 pkgs of crackers
1 pkg of gum
1 pencil (.25 filler)
2 nasogels
4 detergents
4 boxes of soyjoy
6 throat coolers
2 nutratrim gums
Okay. This is where most folks are going - why on earth would you spend 7.46 on junk? Let's face it - most of this is junk. And honestly, I *normally* wouldn't. However, this is what it looks like to my family:
Gum for happy hubby, extra pencil for schoolwork, and 2 pkgs of crackers for happy hubby to take to work... 2 throat coolers kept aside for personal stock cuz mom wants to see what they are all about.
Utilizing my normal market:
4 detergents with potential resale value of about 2.50 a bottle (maybe more, but lets keep it low for now) = 10.00
2 nasogels with resale value of about 3.00 each = 6.00
4 boxes of soyjoy with resale value of about 4.50 each = 18.00
2 nutratrim gum with resale value of about 3.00 each = 6.00
4 boxes of throat coolers with resale value of about 2.00 each = 8.00
That is a total of: 48.00 cash - initial investment of $7.46 = gain of 41.54.

Psalm 1-5
Okay... this is take #2. I started to write, got partway done, had to stop for family (you know, everyone wants to eat breakfast, baby likes a dry diaper and cuddling, oldest needs pointed in the right direction with schoolwork, gotta prep hubby's lunch and our dinner, yada yada - life...) Of course, while I was distracted, the puter decides to auto-update and then reboot. (yeah, I know I set it to do that at some point, but does it HAVE to do it when I've got a half-done blog sitting around??)
Okay - down to business. We are still doing catch up, so if it seems that reading Ps. 1-5 is a lot at one time, it kind of is - it was supposed to be done in 2 parts. But, we did it last night as part of our family bible reading. :) This is in no way an exhaustive exegetical study on the first 5 psalms. More of a very general overview - very general. So be good bereans!! Study, study, study!
Psalms are traditionally associated with David. Jewish tradition holds David as a singer/songwriter and attributes a significant portion of the Psalms to his authorship. Not all were written by David, but many were.
Psalm 1 is referred to as a gateway Psalm. It's the door to let you in by. You will see that it points out that to properly approach the throne of God, we need the right heart and attitude. We cannot come as blatant, hateful, scornful sinners. To have a conversation or relationship with God, we must come to worship God as a holy God; and we need to come with the right, worshipful, reverant attitude toward God and the Law of God.
Ps. 1:1-2 - Blessed is the man ho walks not in the counsel fo the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
There is a blessing given to those who seek and delight in the Lord! In the latter part of vs. 6, we also see that "the way of the wicked will perish."
Psalm 2, according to my bible commentary, holds kingship as the theme. The messianic promise is not hard to see in this psalm. It reminds us that while kings of this earth may plan and plot, God is the ultimate King in ultimate control. He will set his son as THE king, and all will be in subjection to Him.
Ps. 2:10-12 - "now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you peris in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessd are all who take refuge in him."
There is a great warning to the earthly kings that scoff at God, and they are told that God's wrath will be quick to ignite, and admonished to "Kiss the Son" - which is to give a sign of submission to his authority. After all, it is only by God's authority that any man rules any kingdom! And again, a blessing is given to those who "take refuge" in the Son.
Psalm 3 is proclaimed a "Psalm of David when he fled from Absalom his son." He is surrounded by foes, in a great time of distress; and while he cries out to God, we see that he has a great trust in God.
Ps. 3:4-5 - I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill. I lay down and slep; I woke again, for the lord sustained me.
He is pursued by enemies, yet manages to sleep! How great a trust one must have in God to have a sound sleep amidst persecution and death pursuits!
Psalm 4 is another Psalm of David - and also written in a time of distress. According to my commentary, the first part of the first line: Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!... is a bold statement made because the psalmist has great faith in God's knowing that God is his righteousness. "The righteous are not without sin, but are in a covenant relationship with God." (from the commentary)
The psalmist laments the apparent turning of men toward false idols and gods. In fact, the "seek" after them. He does remind, however, "but know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him." God keeps for himself a godly people that will call up on his name!
Finally, Psalm 5 is another psalm attributed to David. We may begin to see a pattern here. This is another distress call to God. All those times we feel like we are surrounded by wickedness - all we see or hear are evil things - this is a distress call about that very experience. The psalmist cries out to God about the wickedness around him, proclaiming back to God: "For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildors. You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and decitful man."
This is as much a reminder to the psalmist as it is a call upon God. In these things, the fact that God abhors evil and will destroy it, the psalmist takes comfort. The wickedness may press in around us, but God will not tolerate it, and will destroy the evil.
Vs. 11 & 12 is like taking a refreshing, deep breath: "But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield." As always, there is a blessing and promise given to God's covenant people. :)

Freebies and Walgreens sales - get mailables ASAP
Free Suave - today only (thanks to Felicia for the reminder!) You have to sign up and they'll send you a coupon in the mail. Go get 'em!
Walgreens:
Quaker oatmeal is 2 for 2.79. It's the smaller sized cylinder. With the 1.00/1 coupons that are out, it makes them .79 (plus applicable tax) for 2. If you are local and need some, lemme know... I'll grab you some.
Also, if you use Equal 100ct. pks are 2/5.00 this week. Some areas got 1.50/1 and some got 2.50/1 newspaper coupons. Makes the equal 2/2.00 or free. Our area only go the 1.50 coupon, but I ordered some from Dede. We don't use Equal, but I figured this will be a nice donation to the church coffee table! Shh... don't tell 'em.
Dark & Lovely haircoloring is 5.00, get a 5.00 RR. Decent deal if you use these.
Some cleaners are bogo, so good deals after q's. Oust is bogo at 3.79, and there are b1g1 coupons out for a free oust up to 3.49. Makes it .40 for 2 after coupon.
Pepsi products are spend 20.00 get 10.00 RR. If you are already going to buy chips and pop, may as well get back 10.00 to spend on other stuff... Pepsi 12 pks are 3/15.00. Some chips/dips are included in the sale.
Halls cough drops are BOGO - combine with BOGO coupon to get free cough drops. (who doesn't need those!?)
I'm sure there's a few more great deals, but that's what I thought ya'll might like.
Next week doesn't look terribly exciting yet for Wags. If you have or can order coupons, the ragu and/or skippy may be a decent deal (there's other things included in the promo - dove, lipton, hellmans.) It's buy 8, get a $10.00 RR. Ragu/Skippy is 1.99 each that week. If you buy 8, it comes to 15.92. Subtract q's, and see what the oop is /8. Some folks will also figure the RR into their cost. i.e. 15.92 - 10.00 RR = .74 an item (assuming no manufacturer q's.) Unless I'm rolling RR's from one deal to the next, I count my actual out-of-pocket. I *might* do this deal if I can find the good q's. There's various ones available, so look around.
Here's a list of included items in this Unilever buy8 get 10.00 RR sale:
Dove Haircare 2/$7
Dove Deodorant 2/$7
Degree Deodorant 2/$7
Dove Body Wash, Caress Body Wash, Lever Bar Soap, Q Tips, Pond's, Dove Lotion 25% off
Lipton Tea $2.99 (might be decent with 1.00 q if you have any)
Skippy $1.99
Ragu $1.99
Hellman's $3.99
Bertolli $5.99
Bayer aspirin will be 2.50 a pkg. If you spend 20.00, you get back 10.00 RR. I may do this deal too, since I know some folks who use this stuff. There are 1.00/1 coupons out, so if you buy 8 pkgs for 20.00 - 8.00 in mq's, you spend 12.00 oop, get back a 10.00 RR. You may have a challenge finding 8 Bayer aspirin - especially if you go later in the week, so good luck!
If you have any of the .50/1 newspaper coupons, the dawn dish soap will be .49 each.
If you have the Walgreen's coloring book coupons, you can get Wags brand bandaids for .50 a box. I saw some in the clearanced section at one store, but haven't seen them in other places. May have to ask at the pharmacy. The coloring book runs about .99 or less, and has several q's in it that are good for another month or so.
This may be a better week to do the Pepsi deal since the Dorito chips are 2/5.00.
I'm also not overly impressed by the 1/25 ad, but I've only perused the ad once. Well - there looks like they may offer a $25.00 gift card when you transfer/fill new RX coupon in the ad - so THAT may be a good thing if you need to do it! You can then use the gift card to start you free-after-rebate things or build up your Register Rewards for rolling.
The one thing I noted is that reynold's foil will be .89. If you check the clipping sites, you can probably pick up some 1.00/1 foil coupons to get it free. I haven't decided if I'll do this yet or wait for the next go-round. It's a common sale at Wags. Also, Wags brand ziploc bags will be .99 with in-ad coupon.
8/1.00 valentine's gift bags, 6/1.00 plastic valentine tumblers, and 5/1.00 valentine pencils - may be a good little thing for you teachers or mom's looking for a little something for the kiddo's. Although, there may be an 8/1.00 in the following weeks ad - sometimes that happens. Some candy on sale (surprise, I know...)
Listerine is 2/9.00, get back 4.XX (can't read if it's .50 or .99) RR. Use the 2.00/1 printable or mailable coupon (sign up twice to ensure you get 2 coupons), pay 5.00 oop, get back the RR.
Hopefully Feb. will be a great month at Walgreens.

So I've been thinking...
This past year or so has been a challenge to me. I've let myself become weary of the very things and opportunities I've longed for, and developed a rotten inward attitude. I'm just tired of it. Most of it doesn't matter. I worry, fret, or get anxious about the most ridiculous things. I want to go back to enjoying the beauty of life that God has given me now, and long for the amazing life yet to come!
I've done a lot of thinking, praying, and reading. I'm very self-centered and self-focused lately, but I'm not happy with it. In fact, the more I think about and ponder myself, the more anxious, depressed and grouchy I become! So, I've decided to change.
God had been good, merciful, and gracious to me. I want to show that in my life! If my husband, children, and friends see a woman who is worn out, dreary, and un-interesting - what honor does that bring to God??
So, part of changing is actually doing something about what needs changing. I used to be more active in prayer and bible reading, but sadly, I have neglected this more than I care to admit. I need God. I depend on God. My hope, my strength, my joy - it all comes from God! So God is going to get my attention, my love, and my worship. Prayer and study about God is my primary focus!
I've never been organized. I'm at a loss with it. I never learned this skill. So, for my families sake, I am going to work hard at developing this ability. There are so many good resources out there, so I am confident that with Providence and diligence, I will be much better at this come January 2010!
Finally, I have been wishing that I knew how to sew. Oh, I can repair a small rip or sew on a button, but I haven't put together an outfit on my own - ever. So, I plan to figure out this skill this year. No more wishing... time to do. (Was it Yoda that said "There is no try. Do or do not..."?)
Anyway, these are some of the things that have weighed heavily on me for a while. My relationship with God, my relationship with family, my attitude, and my activity. With God's great mercy and His divine will... I'll be working on these goals!
It amazes me how God uses other people to work out good in you. My darling husband emailed me last week with a plan to read through the bible in a year and to read through Calvin's institutes in a year. We got a couple days behind because of some medical stuff, but we're catching up quickly. It has been so refreshing and amazing to hear the word of God. To go through and read, ponder, and discuss as a family the things written in the Bible - things we've sometimes missed or not fully pondered before. With the bible-reading-in-a-year schedule, it helps to not feel burdened or lost. I'm not sure where he found the institutes plan, but I found this one, and it looks similar/exact to what we are doing.

Egads...
What a crazy few weeks.
Christmas morning we found out that Grandpa had passed away. Not entirely unexpected, but still very heartbreaking (especially for oldest DD). The girls and I traveled up for the funeral, stayed a couple days to rest and visit, then came back home.
2 days later - car accident. UGH! Of course, it happens in the evening. So, after all the calls and what not Friday evening and Saturday morning, we had to wait until Monday to get a rental. Thankfully, while I'm a bit sore and banged up, we weren't *seriously* injured.
Then, last week we spent fretting and prepping for hubby's hospital visit. Thankfully, before performing major invasive surgery, doc decided to just double check things out. We ended up with a minor procedure that (so far) seems to have fixed what my hubby has been suffering with for 2 YEARS!!! He's like a new man already.
Things have been stressful and hectic, but overall we have had good news. DH doesn't have to go through major surgery! Another amazing answered prayer is that his cousin Tim was told that his 2nd appearance of leukemia is now gone. They find no evidence of it in his system!
Gotta run and take care of the kidlets... more later.
